CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — On Tuesday, September 13, officials with the Charleston Police Department unveiled the final draft of the illumination project to the Charleston City Council.

The project was created to further grow the relationship between regular people and those with a badge.

Thirty-two public listening and input sessions were held with more than 800 people shared their ideas for what they want the city to do.

One of the takeaways from the project is that people want to make sure that police officers are trained not only to take down criminals — but to de-escalate volatile situations.

News 2’s Carolyn Murray went to the Charleston Police Department and underwent a virtual training exercise that shows what police do to save your life and their own.
