North Charleston teacher trying to raise money for bicycles for all 600+ students at her school

A North Charleston elementary school teacher has a big dream. And she says you can help her make that come true.

“I teach 1st grade. This is my fourth year at Pepperhill.” Katie Blomquist loves her job at Pepperhill Elementary School. “I get to be the one that teaches them a lot of things for the first time. I get to teach them how to tell time, and they don’t know how to read a clock until I teach it to them.”

She loves her kids. “One little student from my class last year that I especially bonded with. And I realized after taking him out on weekends and trying to give him some experiences he doesn’t get in life that he doesn’t have a bike.”

To her, that is unacceptable. “So I thought how cool would it be to do a gofundme to buy him a bike? What about his brother you know I don’t want to leave him out I’m sure he wants a bike too.”

She decided to try to raise enough money to buy bikes for the more than 600 kids at Pepperhill Elementary School for Christmas.

In less than 48 hours, thousands of dollars have already been donated. Katie is ecstatic. “Just to think, ‘oh my gosh, I could be part of being responsible for giving them the best memories every child has in their childhood’ to get a brand-new bike would just be awesome.”
