Sidney Moorer scheduled to be released from jail Wednesday

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) – Director Wayne Owens with the J Reuben Long Detention Center confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Sidney Moorer is scheduled to be released from jail on Wednesday.

Moorer is accused of kidnapping Heather Elvis who disappeared in December 2013 and hasn’t been seen since.

A judge issued an order in March of 2014 preventing Moorer and the State from talking about the case.

Moorer reached out to News13 following the second day of his kidnapping trial in June. He said he wanted to speak on the prosecution’s presentation of surveillance video showing him buying a pregnancy test on the night Elvis disappeared. Prosecutors suggested throughout the trial that Moorer kidnapped Elvis because she was pregnant.

On July 29, Moorer was sentenced to five months in jail for violating the gag order. He was taken into custody immediately following the hearing.
