Traffic in Summerville… sound familiar? but, within the next week you might notice a difference in your commute times.
The town installed software designed to adjust the traffic lights based on traffic flow.
The lights affected are on Main Street from the intersection of Richardson Avenue to the Interstate at exit 199.
They say by next week the lights will have acclimated to the traffic flows and traffic should be moving better for commuters heading to the interstate.
Russ Cornette, Town of Summerville, “The traffic downtown over the railroad tracks is about 17,800 cars per day.. the traffic out on main street out near the interstate, is about 26,600 cars per day…so that’s 10,000 more cars per day out by the interstate.”
Also in the works, the Berlin G Myers extension project, extending the road past Carolina Avenue. Also, a new exit ‘197’ in what’s called the Sheep Island interchange to help alleviate traffic off 199, both should be finished by 2018.
