COLUMBIA, SC (WCBD) – American Airlines granted a special birthday wish for a teen in Columbia.
Over the weekend, the airline introduced Shantell “Princess” Pooser as its first flight attendant with special needs and a terminal illness.
The 17-year-old has down syndrome and a condition that makes it difficult to breathe.
Princess discovered a passion for flying during trips to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
“After the newest, recent scans, they were so scary to the point now where the doctors in Cincinnati say there’s nothing more that they can do for her,” explained her mother, Deanna Miller Berry. “So, you just figure what can you do to make a difference.”
Princess held her birthday party at Columbia’s Metropolitan Airport. She was joined by friends, family, pilots and even Columbia’s mayor.
