COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) — A South Carolina Correctional Officer is facing a number of charges following an incident at Evans Correctional Institution in Marlboro County.

Ronnie Evans is charged with misconduct in office and two counts of second-degree assault and battery.

The charges stem from incidents on March 28 & March 29 where Evans inappropriately touched and made comments of a sexual manner to several people and fellow correctional officers, according to an affidavit.

“Evans was in-trusted with providing the victim with training and guidance,” the affidavit added.

Evans started with the Department of Corrections on June 17, 2016, according to Department of Corrections spokesman Jeffrey Taillon.

He was arrested on May 31, 2018.
