Dept. of Energy to remove weapons-grade plutonium secretly shipped from SC

South Carolina News

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – The Department of Energy says it will remove the weapons-grade plutonium secretly shipped from South Carolina to Nevada last year.

The plan is to start removing it in 2021 and finish by the end of 2026.

Energy Secretary Rick Perry also says his department won’t ship any more plutonium from South Carolina to a site north of Las Vegas.

Nevada filed a court order to temporarily ban new plutonium shipments to the state.
