DHEC reopens shellfish harvesting in Beaufort County

South Carolina News

BEAUFORT, SC (WCBD) – The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has announced the reopening of shellfish harvesting beds in Beaufort County.

The beds were previously closed due to excessive rainfall resulting in high levels of bacteria in local water.

“Water quality data indicate that bacteria levels are once again suitable for shellfish harvesting in the Conditional Management Area of Wallace Creek and Capers Creek,” said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC’s Shellfish Sanitation Section, in a press release Friday.
