Family of 4 injured on way to church by suspected DUI driver, deputies say

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Greenville County deputies said a family of four was on their way to church when a suspected drunk driver crashed into their car.

South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 253 and Cedar Lane Road. 

According to SCHP, Devonte Williams, 23, was driving a 2014 Honda Accord when he sped through the intersection to avoid deputies and crashed into the left side of the family’s 2007 Lexus.

One person was ejected from the Lexus and all four of car’s passengers were injured and transported to an area hospital, troopers said. Williams was also injured and taken to the hospital. 

Deputies said the family was on their way to church when the crash happened. 

Williams has been charged with four counts of felony DUI with great bodily injury and four counts of failure to stop for blue lights resulting in injury, troopers said.

The intersection was shut down while law enforcement conducted their investigation. 

SCHP, SCHP MAIT team and GCSO will continue to investigate the crash.
