COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – A former Lee Correctional officer has been arrested and charged with bringing contraband into a prison and misconduct in office.

According to Chrysti Shain, the director of communications for the South Carolina Department of Corrections, charges were filed after Jacob Lenard White brought four plastic water bottles containing a clear substance believed to be alcohol into the prison in December of 2018.

Arrest warrants show the substances in the bottles were sent to the State Law Enforcement Agency’s lab for analysis. Results confirmed the substances tested positive as being ethanol with the equivalent of 179 proof alcohol or higher.

The incident was reportedly witnessed by four other correctional officers.
