GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to an assault and battery charge, where he bit his ex-girlfriend’s lip off.

According to a solicitor’s office news release, Seth Aaron Fleury, 23, pleaded guilty to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and was sentenced on Thursday.

In the release, Fleury was meeting with a former girlfriend in Simpsonville to discuss their relationship on Oct. 21, 2017.

Fleury then became angry when his ex-girlfriend refused to get back together with him.

When he tried to kiss the woman, she pulled away and he bit down on her bottom lip with force, causing it to be amputated.

Fleury then left the scene.

The woman underwent emergency plastic surgery, but doctors were unable to reattach her lip.

According to the release, the woman has permanent, serious scarring and a permanent and limited range of motion in her mouth.

“This case demonstrates the unique circumstances under which domestic violence occurs, and how quickly these situations can escalate into violence,” Solicitor Walt Wilkins said. “Hopefully this prison sentence will make it clear to both this defendant and other abusers that domestic violence in any fashion will not be tolerated.”
