Group asks federal judge to block start of seismic airgun blasting

South Carolina News

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A group of conservation organizations are asking a federal judge to block the start of seismic airgun blasting in the Atlantic until the case can be fully heard in court.

The motion argues seismic airgun blasting violates three federal laws: the Marine Mammal Protection Act, Endangered Species Act and National Environmental Policy Act.

Sixteen communities in South Carolina and the Small Business Chamber of Commerce have already filed a lawsuit against seismic blasting.

That has been merged with today’s lawsuit from the conservation groups.
