Lawmakers want to bring back the electric chair for state executions

South Carolina News

COLUMBIA, SC (WCBD) – Death by electric chair – it could soon be the default method for executions in South Carolina.

A bill has moved to the State House after being passed by the state senate.

If approved, inmates could also choose to die by firing squad.

Executions are currently done by lethal injection, but the state has not executed anyone since 2011.

This is in part because South Carolina has not been able to get the necessary drugs since they expired.

There are currently 35 inmates on death row in the Palmetto State.
