Proposed bill would help pay off SCE&G’s debt, save customer’s money

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – Saving you money on your power bills — that’s the goal of a proposal in front of South Carolina lawmakers right now.

The proposed bill would help pay off SCE&G’s debt from the abandoned nuclear reactors in Fairfield County, which was later purchased by Dominion Energy.

The State Newspaper reports the bill would allow the Public Service Commission to take away Dominion’s power to continue making money from those reactors.

Dominion is against the proposal, though.

Regulators approved Dominion’s purchase of SCE&G’s parent company, SCANA, back in December.

It included allowing Dominion to charge customers another $2.3 billion dollars for the abandoned nuclear reactor project.
