SC Lawmakers debating “Complete Streets” bill

South Carolina News

Dozens in the midlands are running 24/7 this week to raise awareness about the issues pedestrians face on the road, a problem in cities and towns see across the state. But it’s also a problem one Lowcountry lawmaker is looking to address

Representative Marvin Pendarvis from here in Charleston filed the Complete Streets bill which would require the Department of Transportation to implement safety measures on roads to make the streets complete for cars, pedestrians and cyclists.

The bill calls for improvements like bike lanes and sidewalks, something runners and cyclists say would make a big difference

More than 50 pedestrians have died on South Carolina roads so far this year. The bill is currently in a Public Works committee waiting for lawmakers to return in January
