AIKEN, S.C. (WCBD) – A South Carolina teenager is speaking out after surviving being struck by lightning.
14-year-old Ah’laya Scriven says lightning struck her window while she was in her bed Saturday in Aiken County and said she was zapped as she went to grab her phone.
Doctors say she is expected to make a full recovery which is rare.
“I feel like God, he watched over me and he made sure that I stayed okay,” she said. “Normally, when people get hit, they can die from it and they can’t get brought back and so I feel lucky that I was able to tell my story.“
The teenager says she could not feel her arm, so she spent the night at the hospital.
Her only injury is an exit wound on her backside.
Scriven said she still has some chest pain from where the bolt went through her.
