Sheriff: Chase ends in deputy involved shooting when suspect draws a weapon

ANDERSON COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – South Carolina State Law Enforcement Agents are investigating after an officer-involved shooting in a field Saturday night.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff, a deputy saw a vehicle driving erratically and dangerously near Tri-County Technical College.

The deputy tried to stop the car, but the suspect drove away causing a chase.

The pursuit continued to Williams Road in La France where another deputy joined in. The suspect then rammed the patrol cars, disabling one of them.

The chase continued to a field on Lebanon Road where the suspect tried to ram another patrol car, but a deputy was able to disable the vehicle.

The Sheriff says when the deputy got out of their patrol car the suspect pulled out a rifle and that is when he was shot.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, their condition is unknown at this time. No deputies were injured during the chase or shooting.

The deputy involved has been put on administrative leave pending a SLED investigation.
