State Rep. wants Dominion Energy to honor $1,000 promise

South Carolina News

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A Lowcountry lawmaker wants to make sure customers who paid into a failed nuclear reactor in Fairfield County receive their once-promised incentive.

State Representative Wendell Gilliard of Charleston is calling on Dominion Energy to honor their promise to taxpayers now that they have become the owners of SCE&G’s parent company, SCANA.

In a campaign introducing the Virginia-based utility company over the summer, they promised customers would receive approximately $1,000 per household as a partial refund.

As the deal became closer to reality, that promise eventually disappeared from Dominion’s plan for buying SCANA.

Rep. Gilliard has introduced a House resolution calling on Dominion to send out those checks.

The State newspaper says only 21 House members have signed that resolution.
