HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD/WSAV) – The National Weather Service (NWS) and officials in Hampton County have confirmed at least five fatalities after severe weather moved through the area early Monday morning.

The Hampton County Emergency Management Agency said thunderstorms also created heavy wind damage as the storms ripped through the Nixville area.

News 2’s sister station in Savannah, WSAV News 3, confirmed that three of the deceased were a mother, father and daughter. Their trailer on Ginn Hill Road was apparently picked up and flipped over during the storm.

According to Wayne Evans with Hampton County, officials continue to remove debris and search the area for residents.

The public is urged to stay off of roadways if possible, as there are many downed power lines, trees and other debris blocking lanes.

“Hampton County first responders are answering calls and need the roads cleared,” Hampton County Government shared in a Facebook post.

The county is taking food donations for the community and first responders at the Hampton County Recreation Department (361 Pine Street). Call Tammy Thaxton at 803-943-2857 with any questions.

Evans said they have been in touch with the Red Cross to provide further assistance for those impacted by the severe weather.
