Special Town Council meeting to be held in Summerville to discuss proposed zoning ordinance

On Wednesday, Summerville Town Council will start to review a draft of the town’s new proposed Unified Development Ordinance.

The new zoning regulations will simplify the zoning process for homeowners and builders looking to develop in the town. It will also update the current zoning codes that were put into place back in the 1980s.

“These ordinances were in place when we were 3,000 people,” said Mayor Wiley Johnson “Now, all of a sudden we have lots of development, lots of things going on, we’re over 50,000 people. We’ve got to have our ordinances keep pace with our growth.”

Council will meet at 2:30 p.m. in town hall and review the first two chapters of the proposed ordinance.

Other meetings will be held later to continue reviewing other parts of the ordinance before it is given first reading.
