Summerville neighborhood considers legal action over continued flooding

News

SUMMERVILLE,SC(WCBD)–Residents of Arbor Oaks neighborhood say that they are prepared to take legal actions against the town and the neighborhood’s developer after dealing with repeated flooding.

Home Owner’s Association Vice President Melanie Yurczak tells News 2 that the neighborhood has experienced constant flooding since it was developed, but the last two years saw the worst of it. During last year’s historic flooding many homes had over a foot of standing water inside. Some of those neighbors were still making repairs when Matthew hit.

Yurczak says that she believes the neighborhood should not have been built in the flood prone area and the elevation was below code. She also claims that the town knew of the flooding potential, but did nothing to stop it. A group of neighbors plan to voice their concerns at a town council meeting tonight.

News 2 reached out to the developer and the town’s council about the allegations, but has not yet heard back.
