West Ashley High School Students charged with attempted murder


CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) -Charleston Police have charged two West Ashley High School students for their alleged involvement in a shooting Wednesday night in a parking lot on Ashley Gardens Boulevard.

Justin Carroll, 17, of Cathedral Lane, and Jaelen Heyward, 17, of Bonanza Road are both charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and five counts of attempted murder. They are being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Officers were dispatched about 7:30 p.m. to the Bees Landing Recreation Complex at 1580 Ashley Gardens Boulevard in reference to shots fired at a parked vehicle. There were five juveniles inside of the vehicle.

A witness provided police with a description and license plate number of a vehicle that left the scene of the incident at a high rate of speed after the shooting.

The vehicle was later found on Corrall Drive with the two suspects inside.

No one was injured during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
