Witness testimony continues in Heather Elvis kidnapping trial

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A jury will continue to hear testimony from witnesses Tuesday in the kidnapping trial against Sidney Moorer.

Moorer’s charge stems from the disappearance of Heather Elvis. She’s been missing for more than two years.

On Monday, opening statements started shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Prosecutors and the defense varied in their approach to opening statements, but touched on how they think Elvis disappeared. Prosecutors asked the jury to link together the facts of the case with witness testimony to reach their opinion on the charge against Moorer. They claimed Moorer and Elvis had an affair, but broke off the relationship prior to her disappearance.

Moorer’s attorney, Kirk Truslow, told the jury there was no proof to back up the case and claimed Horry County Police felt pressure from the public to make an arrest in the case.

Testimony from three women who previously worked with Elvis at the Tilted Kilt, a restaurant at Broadway at the Beach, started directly after opening statements concluded Monday. Each touched on their relationships with Elvis and Elvis’ relationship with Moorer.

Day two of the Moorer trial is expected to begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
