Berkeley County Voters Reject Referendum on County Supervisor

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCBD) - A couple of county referendums were on the ballot in Berkeley County where voters had the chance to have their say regarding how their county government is structured.

Voters there made their opinion clear once again -- they do not want the form of government in the county to change.

Citizens basically said the same thing they said 10 years ago. They want to be able to hire - and fire - the county supervisor. And frankly, they are more than willing to do that.

Voters have fired the last three supervisors from their positions on Election Day. They do not want to turn those decisions over to county council.

With 100% of precincts reporting, more than 56% of voters rejected the idea while 37% said they were in favor of the idea.

Most of county council and the new supervisor-Elect Johnny Cribb aggressively supported changing the form of government.
