NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Do you need a ride to the polls on election day?
CARTA announced on Thursday plans to offer free transportation service on election day, Tuesday, Nov. 6.
“We want all eligible voters in the Lowcountry to have access to one of our country’s fundamental rights, without having to overcome mobility or economic barriers,” said CARTA board of directors chairman Mike Seekings.
Meanwhile, Uber will also offer free rides on election day. The ride share service says they will work with nonprofits to give certain groups of people free rides to the polls.
Uber will offer U.S. riders the ability to quickly find their polling place and book a free ride, the company said.
“Decisions get made by those who show up,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. “This Election Day, Uber will be doing what we can to make it easier for people to do just that.”
Lyft plans to offer half-priced and some free rides to polling places on election day.
