CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Another City of Charleston council member has officially announced his run for mayor.

Gary White has served on city council for 12 years. He graduated from the College of Charleston and received a Masters from The Citadel.

Four council members, including Bill Moody and William Dudley Gregory, joined councilman White for a tour throughout the city Thursday morning and stopped at several areas to announce the campaign.

“Our city is in desperate need of strong leadership. Our employees with the city are in desperate need of strong management. We have an organization with a $200M budget and over 1,700 employees – those employees need somebody who has got skills, to lead and to manage them so that they have an understanding of what it means every day when they come into work to work hard for the citizens of Charleston,” he said.

White will be running against incumbent mayor John Tecklenburg, College of Charleston graduate Will Freeman and fellow council member Harry Griffin.

Elections will be held November 5th.
