COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSAV/AP) – Former Vice President Joe Biden is making his way to the Palmetto State this weekend for his presidential campaign.
The candidate is stopping in Columbia Saturday at the Hyatt Park Community Center (950 Jackson Ave). Doors open at 3:30 p.m.
Biden is facing plenty of competition in South Carolina. At least 15 Democratic candidates have held more than 100 events here so far this year, most recently, Sens. Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren as well as Beto O’Rourke.
The former VP has maintained state ties dating back decades with his friendships with fellow senators Strom Thurmond and Fritz Hollings. Biden eulogized both of them.
He and his family have also vacationed regularly near Charleston, reportedly hunkering down there as he mulled — and ultimately chose not to pursue — a 2016 presidential campaign.
