NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Democratic Senator Kamala Harris is in the Lowcountry for a Town Hall meeting that happens Friday evening in North Charleston.

Sen. Harris is one of the many Democratic hopefuls running in the 2020 presidential race.

Earlier today, she explained why South Carolina is so pivotal to her campaign.

“I believe that the people of South Carolina are ultimately going to elect the next President of the United States based on issues, and certainly the way that I am approaching this state is that I believe that the vast majority of us have so much more in common than what separates us,” she said.

She went on to say, “Voters, families, people want to know that the people who are running for office and the folks that they will elect are focused on their kitchen table issues, focused on issues they care about each day—that is my intention to do that and to spend a lot of time here.”

Earlier in the day, Sen. Harris visited Mother Emanuel AME to pay her respects to the nine victims of the 2015 shooting and left flowers in their memory.

“We’ve lost too many lives to gun violence,” she said in a post on Twitter. “It’s are past time to pass commonsense gun safety reform.”

Count on 2 will have a crew at that town hall meeting and will bring you the latest on-air and online.
