CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC – The U.S. Women’s Open is expected to draw thousands of people to the Lowcountry and that means there will be more people driving around James Island and West Ashley.

Round one of the tournament begins Thursday morning at the Country Club of Charleston off Folly Road Blvd.

SCDOT plans to close the Wappoo Cut Drawbridge on the intercoastal waterway to boat traffic during morning and afternoon hours on June 1 and June 2. The goal is to accommodate traffic during the U.S. Women’s Open.

The drawbridge will close to all maritime traffic starting Saturday morning at 6:00 to 9:29 a.m. and then 3:31 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Again, this will take place Saturday and Sunday.

According to SCDOT, the drawbridge will open every hour on the half hour for maritime traffic between 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 1 and June. 2
