Thursday night was the 20th home opener for the Charleston RiverDogs and it was a good one. With four runs in the ninth, the RiverDogs walked off the diamond with a big 5-4 win against the Columbia Fireflies.
It was also a big night for new Charleston Mayor, John Tecklenburg. He performed the National Anthem on a piano and then stepped onto the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch with RiverDogs Director of Fun, Bill Murray.
The famous Charleston native tried to pick up the new Mayor but failed miserably and it was all caught on camera. Watch the moment above.
It was also the first Thirsty Thursday of the season, which just happened to land on National Beer Day. Fans enjoyed the dollar beers and DJ Natty Heavy got the party going up in the Ashley View Pub. Fans that hung out through the end of the game also got to see a big show of post-game fireworks.
It was a great night at the Joe and a great start to the 2016 RiverDogs season.
