February’s Supermoon Expected to be Brightest & Biggest Of 2019

Weather News

February’s full moon is expected to be the brightest in the sky, as the biggest supermoon of year.

This supermoon will peak Tuesday around 10:54 a.m.; but visibility will be tough at this time due to the bright sunshine.  So, keep an eye out Monday and Tuesday night, with clouds in the forecast it might be tough still, but a few breaks are possible.

Supermoon is a buzz word we hear a lot—but what does it mean? The term is used when a full moon passes closest to the Earth’s orbit. This causes the moon to look larger, or super.

Native Americans name each month’s full moon based on what is associated with that month, February’s full moon is also referred to as the snow moon. You might also hear February’s full moon called the bone or hunger moon, due to the lack of food during the winter months.

If you can’t get out and check out this month’s supermoon, we have another one coming up in March.
