Category Four Hurricane Florence barrels toward the Carolinas

Hurricane Central

Hurricane Florence, a powerful category four on the Saffir-Simpson Wind Scale, continues heading west-northwest this morning on a collision course with the east coast of the United States.

“Florence hasn’t intensified further overnight but the track of the storm continues to become more clear,” said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Marthers. “The window for missing the United States has pretty much closed and a major hit will occur later this week.”

The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center has everyone from the northern coast of South Carolina to much of North Carolina on alert for a direct impact.

The area near and north of where the eye crosses the coast can expect devastating wind and storm surge damage.  Flooding rain, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes will occur hundred of miles away from the center and could last for days.
