STORM TEAM 2 – As of Saturday morning, Florence was a strengthening tropical storm still over 800 miles southeast of Bermuda.
With the 5 AM update, the storm was expected to restrengthen into a hurricane by Sunday and continue to intensify into a major hurricane by Tuesday.
With the latest model updates, we are growing more and more confident of a direct impact from Florence somewhere along the United States east coast. However, there is still a lot of spread in the models so we cannot nail down an exact location yet. We need to continue to watch the models over the next 24 to 48 hours as things come into better focus. Anywhere from Georgia to Virginia is a possibility.
We have the gift of time, to be able to check in with our disaster plans and make sure everything is ready to go in case we need to put it into action. Check your disaster kit to make sure it is completely stocked and restock anything that may be missing. Get to those house keeping projects, like tree trimming, you meant to do in the spring, but have been putting off. Make sure all your important documents are in a waterproof box and are easy to grab, if need be. Take pictures of your valuables for insurance purposes. And then continue to go forward with your weekend plans.
Stay tuned to Storm Team 2 for the latest updates on Florence and the rest of the tropics.
