Dorian becomes Category 1 hurricane, moving away from Puerto Rico

Tracking the Tropics

Update on Hurricane Dorian as of 5pm Wednesday. The storm is moving NW about 14 MPH with maximum winds at 80 MPH. We will have to keep a close eye on this system as it moves away from the islands into favorable waters. Development looks likely over the next few days, with our first major hurricane of the season potentially by later this week. High pressure to the north will be the steering for Dorian’s movement, this will determine our impacts in the Lowcountry. Have your hurricane kit ready, but nothing to worry about right now.

Storm Team 2 meteorologists say it is important to not focus on the exact track forecast just yet as more changes are expected today and Thursday.
